Sirens of the Ditch

Sirens Of The Ditch starts off with "Brand New Kind of Actress", "Down in a Hole", and "Try".  "Chicago Promenade" will be one of the radio play winners but the one that just really gets me is "Dress Blues". When he says “They’re all dressing in black, drinking sweet tea from Styrofoam cups”, well . . . I just break down and boo-hoo. I’ve been to southern funerals. That line sums that up.  And it’s the most gentle war protest song ever - it's just that powerful.

The rest of this album does not suck, either.  "Hurricanes and Hand Grenades" makes me want to be at the bar at Pat O’Brien’s in New Orleans sipping outta one of those big ol’ frosty goblets.  "The Devil Is My Running Mate" had to kind of grow on me, but really, there’s not a weak track to be found. And, Jason Isbell live is a hard show to beat. That Jason can play the guitar, did y’all notice?
