Scott Miller & the Commonwealth – Citation
Those of you who have followed Scott Miller’s career since his days with The V-Roys probably did what we did and grabbed his latest CD at your first opportunity. It’s a worthy successor to his previous albums with the Commonwealth: "Thus Always to Tyrants" and the not quite as strong but still good "Upside Downside."
The Beau Roland Band – Northern Hospitality
At first glance, it would be easy to dismiss The Beau Roland Band as just another folky acoustic bar band. My first exposure to them was listening online to some recordings from a live Willie Nelson Tribute where they played the classic Willie album “Red Headed Stranger” in its entirety. That alone should have been a clue that these guys are, well, a little different.
Jefferson Pepper – Christmas in Fallujah
Funny to review a “Christmas” CD with summer coming on strong in most parts of the country but we just had to. Our excuse: we got this one after Christmas. And, it’s not your typical Christmas CD. You can tell that right off with the title track “Christmas in Fallujah.” Doesn’t exactly give you visions of sugar plums, does it? This one also makes a nice companion piece to Neil Young’s new release “Living With War.”
